Biography

Jill Ansell was born in the wheatbelt of Western Australia and has been based in Victoria Park for many years. She has been the recipient of many Art Awards including the Victoria Park Art Award, York Art Award, the BankWest Open Art Award, the Town of Cambridge Art Award, and the Town of Vincent Art Award. She has also been a finalist in the Black Swan Portrait Award and a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize. She has held solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions since 1999. Her work is held in public and private collections in Australia and overseas.

Artist Statement

Ansell works across a wide range of subjects from surreal desert landscapes to portraits, her work often taking inspiration from inland Western Australia. Stories are often conjured from found objects and paintings are peopled by the odd and obscure. Her work engages the viewer with humour and warm humanity. She mostly works in acrylic, oils and assemblage.
